Beach Days and Christmas in July Continues

Greetings from the beach! I want to tell you that I am sorry if your view at this moment doesn’t include sand, water and sun…because mine does. #sorrynotsorry

I think each year after Vegas, we should just move the party to the beach? I was SO mentally and physically exhausted (in a good way) after last week, that there was no better place to come and let it all soak in. I also love going for morning runs while I’m here. There is something about finishing a run and getting your feet in the sand and cold water. It’s also very peaceful and just lovely.

Sleeping was also at the top of the list. There may or may not have been a spot of drool on my towel today… I came to the beach with my bestie fellow K teacher.

We’ve done this for the past four years together. Spring break, summer…whenever we feel like it. This year, things have been a little different and this is our first time here this summer. Her son, Hunter, was injured in November in a horrific wrestling accident. She has been supermom and driving back and forth from home to Atlanta to get him the best care possible. If you have been following my blog for a while, then you know Hunter’s story.  If you would like to follow his story and pray alongside him, you can find his FB Page and give him some words of encouragement. I never would have imagined the journey that this accident has put everyone on. Hunter is one of the most inspirational and amazing kids I’ve ever met. I hate that he’s not here with us, but I do know that he is working is butt off at Shepard right now so he can get here with us next time <3 While I am beachin’ it…Christmas in July carries on.

The first two days are already long gone. So if you want my Fairy Tale Unit and/or Handwriting Hall of Fame…it’s over. Surely, there will be some B2S sales though (wink wink). But, you’re in luck. Today my Poetry Unit is on sale. It has saved me so much time and energy when it comes to our poetry for the week. I used to get to Monday morning and have a small panic attack because I would go have them get their poetry notebooks and not have a poem to give them…this is a true story.

Tomorrow, you can get my Spring in to Math Centers on Sale. I have the hardest time in the Spring getting Math Tubs and Literacy Stations together because I feel like I’m doing 100 things at once. This is sort of a mix of things that we all tend to cover at that point in the year.

Math tubs are the perfect way for me to run my small groups during math time. I try to keep the activities similar so then I’m not spending 20 minutes just explaining how to do the station. Stations should be skills that kids are still building and they should be able to do them independently or with help from another student. It shouldn’t be MORE work for you. The content should get more rigorous but the activities should remain pretty constant.

Here are some of the activities that you will find in this pack. If you want to read the full post then you can click here. There is also a freebie in that post from this unit, so if anything…at least grab that!

Since I will be driving home from the beach on Friday, I can pretty much guarantee that there will not be a blog post happening on Friday to talk about what is on sale for Saturday. This is a unit that I LOVE doing with my kids at the beginning of the year. Have you read this book with your students?

It’s a great way to introduce rhyming. I have an entire post on how to make your own dust bunny pens.

I felt like that was a marathon post but I had to get it all out so I could enjoy the last day on the beach! Those of you that were in Vegas…I hope you are getting a week to recover 🙂

Happy shopping and planning for back to school!
