Book Study: Worksheets Don’t Grow Dendrites: Chapter 16

Today miss (almost a Mrs.) Sarah Young at A Rocky Top Teacher is hosting chapter 16 this week! Make sure to link up with her and share all of your ideas with technology! This girl is a GENIUS when it comes to technology. I’m sure she’s going to share all types of amazing things with you but I just read a post recently that she did about Google Hangout and Skype.

I realize that I am VERY fortunate to have the technology perks that I have at my school. I am equipped with almost any kind of technology that I could want. Do I use it to my full advantage? I would like to think that I do, but I know that I need to do a better job of finding new ways to incorporate technology because it’s not going anywhere.

One thing that I’ve started this year is making sure that each student is at a computer typing during our literacy rotations. As you can imagine, typing skills have gone down as tablets have become the new thing. One tiny little problem with that is that our state testing is (or they said it would…) going to be typed responses. I also just think it’s a life skill that should be taught early. If you want to read more about it, you can click here to get the full details.

I try to let the kids use the Smart Board as often as possible. I want it to be accessible to them.

Wouldn’t it be dreamy to have 1:1? My friend, Brittany Banister, is another technology guru who does have 1:1 and she always has lots of great ideas. She’s one to keep on your radar for future projects and ideas!

I am really so excited about this chapter because I think the ideas and possibilities are endless!

Comments

  1. I also have a smartboard and although I had them install it as low as they would allow (22 inches from the floor), many of my kiddos still can’t reach past the middle of the screen. I do have a small step that I use but that can be a pain. Do you have this same issue?

  2. Our district just went to 1:1 this year. It is slowly rolling out for all the grade levels, but right now, our 3rd and 7th graders all have Macbook Airs. There is a big push to USE the technology, so I love reading the different ideas about how to incorporate it more into the classroom.
