Book Study: Worksheets Don’t Grow Dendrites: Chapter 6

I’m on Spring Break so you are going to have to forgive the lateness of this post. I have been too busy sleeping in and doing a lot of nothing the past couple of days :-p Amanda, at One Extra Degree, is hosting the linky for Chapter 6 this week!

In college, I specifically remember feedback I received from one of my professors about being funny and how that would help me as a teacher. I don’t know if I’m really actually funny or just funny to kids, but if you know me then you know that I like a good time 🙂 I try to incorporate those good feelings to my students throughout the day. I want them to feel good so they love coming to school. Having fun with them is the best part of my job.

I really feel like we have fun in my room. I don’t mean crazy or out of control. We are VERY in control. Trust me. I don’t do well with chaos. You have to find a good balance of establishing your classroom management, but still having fun with the kids.

Hello! They are kids!

Dress up!

Play!

Be Silly!

Let your kids see you take your hair down and shake the stress off. They will love you more for it and the more they love you the more they want to do for you. The environment in the classroom becomes one where the kids trust you and respect you!

These pictures were from Read Across America Week. I dressed like Pete the Cat and Thing 1…who doesn’t love an excuse to wear a tutu?

We did vowel surgery and punctuation police this year where students got to be doctors and police officers…all tied to content (of course).

We love Brian and Neil from KooKoo Kangaroo. My husband and I met them at a holiday party and you better believe I e-mailed this to my parents to show their kids that night!
