February Math Journals {Pin it to Win It}

A big part of my math time is having the kids complete math journals. We start them in August and keep them throughout the entire year and the skills build on one another. However, I have my journals set up in folders and they have been hard for the kiddos to find the right page and we’re always flipping back and forth and it kind of takes up more time that it really should.

Instead of having the folders, I am going to start using the readers like we do during literacy. I have also found that while it’s nice to have them in their desks, they get ripped and bent up while they are in there all year.

Here are some examples of some of the prompts that you will find in this month’s journal.

My plan is to continue these journals all year after we start in August. I am also planning on having a basket for the journals to go and have a couple kids have a job of being math helpers to distribute them. These journals could also be used for the “I” portion of independent reading in BUILD tubs if you have higher learners.

Most of these prompts are harder in nature and should be teacher directed.
