Five for Friday

Holy coldness!

How many of you are in the same polar vortex!?

1. That’s my number one. It’s just flat out cold. Are you all in a snow day kind of district? We are. I am a white crayon in the window, ice cube flushing, PJ inside out wearer kind of girl. We LOVE snow days!

It sort of kind of spit some white things from the sky yesterday morning. There was not even enough ice to make a glass of water cold on the bottom of the slides. The kids ran out and circled around it like it was gold. So yeah, snow is an anomaly here in the south. I’m looking forward to some snow days this year 🙂

2. Do you dress turkeys up in your room? We always read Tom Turkey and then I have the students bring home a turkey to decorate at home. I got a Mardi Gras turkey this year and I think it’s pretty fabulous.

3. My kids were SO excited to learn how to use the moving word wall this week during Writer’s Work-shop. I have been trying as hard as I can to carve out 30 minutes of writing at the end of the day for my kids this year. They love writing and I love that they love it.

This week has been all about using resources in our room to help us as writers. The moving word wall is on rings so the kids can get the words off of the hooks and take them to their seats to write. They were all over it. Some of the words on the rings are words that we haven’t introduced yet. They are becoming exposed to more

4. I FINALLY watched Maleficent last weekend. Let’s just say it’s been added to the Christmas list. I loved everything about it.

5. This week, I posted a video on how I have been using T-Swift in my math instruction of comparing numbers. We just shake off those smaller numbers…because why would you do anything else?!

Have a great (hopefully warm?) weekend!

  1. I LOVE your moving word wall idea. I’m not currently in the classroom but something like that would definitely work for my daughter who needs support with spelling. I grew up in Wisconsin so I understand cold. I am currently living in the Bahamas but I haven’t forgotten my roots. 🙂 Hopefully you get some snow days soon.

  2. Hello! Your moving word wall is so cute! I might have to try that one next year! I heard “Maleficent” was good and hope to get my hands on it soon. Thanks for sharing all of your fun. Have a great weekend!

  4. I used your T-Swift idea this week with my preps (I’m in Australia) and they loved it!! I’ll definitely use it for maths warm-ups regularly!

  5. I love Maleficent! I saw it in theaters and it was great! I have not done turkeys in disguise but I see awesome ones every year from other teacher bloggers so I am thinking I need to start! I already can’t stop singing the Taylor Swift song, now I watched your video (SO adorable and fun) and I am singing it all over again! 🙂
