Kindergarten Ready

Happy Sunday!

I’m still in my PJs and I’ve been staring at my computer screen for the past couple of hours determined to get this unit done! I always have parents asking me what they can do in order to help their child get ready for Kindergarten. I’m pretty sure there is a local preschool that runs a Kindergarten Boot Camp…which sounds kind of scary.

The main thing I tell parents is to read to their child. The sound of a fluent reader is one of the biggest impacts that you can have on an emerging reader. I also tell them to work on letter formation and writing their name. That’s always a struggle at the beginning of the year. Because of these questions, I decided to make a Kindergarten Readiness Bundle that would walk parents through skills that would be beneficial for their child when they start Kindergarten. It could also be used by pre-school teachers and at the beginning of the year for Kindergarten teachers.

A lot of you had input on skills that you would like to see in a unit like this. I added a lot more than I was originally planning to because y’all are SO dang smart! I did a post a few {ahem} weeks ago letting you all know that I was making this unit and there are some freebies from the pack that you can try before you buy.

Here is the description:This unit is meant to help your student prepare for skills that will be covered in the first weeks of Kindergarten. All schools are different, but this should be all encompassing for a beginning Kindergartener. These pages are meant to be done together. Students will need some guidance on these activities to help build on schema and scaffold learning.

This unit includes:
-Fine Motor Activities
-Color Pages
-Alphabet Sounds
-Number Practice to 10
-Count and Color
-Letter/Number Discrimination
-Name Practice
-Rhyming

So, hopefully it is something that you can use with your little learner. I tried to be as black and white as possible when explaining how to work with your kiddo on these skills. You can always let me know if you have any questions about it!

I am adding this one to my Christmas in July sale for today 🙂 Wednesday Word Problems are also on sale today and tomorrow!

I also wanted to share that Natalie over at What The Teacher Wants just did a HUGE post on our Vegas meet-up and there is a chance to win a $50 Erin Condren giftcard!  I’m getting ready to link up my Vegas post, so if you went…don’t forget to link up too!
