Peek at My Week and Pin It To Win It

I’m seeing all orange.

It’s pumpkin week.

We are going to the pumpkin patch.

We are digging in to pumpkins, weighing pumpkins, reading about pumpkins, planting pumpkin seeds and everything else pumpkin.

I’m exhausted just thinking about it.

For some reason, I love this particular week. More than apple books or Halloween books. I think part of it are the books. Tomorrow we’re reading Runaway Pumpkin {Freebie alert attached to end of the post}. My tongue gets twisted and tangled every year reading it. Here are some other books that I love reading this week. Click on it to find it on Amazon.

Here is the “Peek at My Week”.

Slide1 Slide2You can check them out in further detail by clicking the picture. I am wayyy over planned. By Friday, there will be at least ten red X’s on things we didn’t get to. I got a little carried away with my new unit.
If you would like to win this, all you have to do is click the little “Pin It” button on the top left corner when you hover over the picture.  Slide1

After you pin it, just come back here and leave your link and e-mail address and I will pick a winner before I do my next post.

There are way too many pumpkin sequencing activities in this unit. I thought of every situation on how you could sequence the life cycle of a pumpkin. I just couldn’t stop myself. I gave the printer quite a work-out before I left on Friday. So it’s as easy as that…Pin It, Win It.

For math this week, we are getting “down and dirty with numbers” {like my team-mate likes to say}. She came up with work-mats that look something like this.

Nothing fancy, but a way for the kiddos to break down their counters or their snap cubes. We have been using the yellow and red counters to flip over because it seems to be quicker than trying to pull the snap cubes apart.

Click on the picture if you want to get the editable version of this activity. Before we break the numbers down and record our findings {which you can record numbers in any way. They can write them on white boards, you can slip this paper in to a sheet protector and students can use expo makers, or you can come up with a recording page for students to write it down with paper and pencil. I am going to do something different each day.} students are going to rotate to a different table and represent the number of the day using the following math tools. I am going to give them about a minute to figure out how to show their number using the tools on the table.  securedownload (12)

A big part of Common Core is seeing a number in different ways. Knowing what 5 looks like in a ten frame. I was explaining this to my hubby yesterday and he said, “That seems pretty advanced for a six year old…”. Well, yes it is. So are verbs and math facts, but all we can do is teach them to the best of our ability and expose them to it. Move on.

Like I said, I love reading Runaway Pumpkin.

Here is a little freebie response activity you can do with your  kiddos if you want to read it with them.

We are doing it tomorrow!

Hope you have a fabulous week!

We are off to the football game for the day!

Go Titans!
