Shake it Off!

One of the ways I like to bringing learning to life in my room is through music…especially through music that kids {and maybe their teacher} really love. One such individual is T-Swift.

I tried to explain how I do this with my kids, but I feel like it’s better if I show you. I asked the Art Teacher to come over and record us in action.

Basically, I write two different numbers on the board while playing “Shake it Off”. Then, students have to use their hands to “shake off” the smaller number. It’s not really that fancy, but the kids really love it and they haven’t gotten sick of it 🙂

Slide1

I started off using numbers 0-10 but they have gotten really good at it so I’ve started to use larger numbers. I modeled the thinking process of looking at two numbers and then making the decision of which one was smaller. In order to get kids to think and use strategies, you have to model it for them.

I hope that the video gives you a better visual!
