Wishy-Washy Peek at My Week

Mrs. Wishy-Washy is sort of my favorite shared reading that we do all year. There are so many fabulous literacy activities that you can correlate with this book and there are a lot of other books out there with her in it. We also like Mr. Wishy-Washy.

Before I show you my plans and different activities, I always forget to mention The Learning Station Wishy-Washer Woman Song.

We probably played it 97 times in a week last year. It was stuck in my head and my husband’s head for days…just warning ya.

Here are the other books that you can use to connect texts and characters. Mrs. Wishy-Washy is the character that I use to start teaching about text-to-text connections. I really love Mrs. Wishy-Washy’s birthday. What kid doesn’t love talking about birthdays? It doesn’t even have to be their birthday…it’s just any birthday in general.

All of the rest of the activities that we are doing for the week are in this Let’s Wash unit.

We are going to start Writer’s Work-shop this week. They always love labeling the teacher…

For Reader’s Work-shop, I’m going to read this book:

The-Best-Place-to-Read-9780375837579

After we read the book, I have the kids illustrate a picture of a place they like to read. We keep the chart up in the classroom all year to remind kids that they can read anywhere.

Now I’m off to church and to watch football…happy Sunday!

Comments

  1. Looks like you have a fun week planned. I am going to have to check out that book. I am hoping to somewhat start literacy centers next week and we always start with read to self. That book sounds like it would be perfect for that.

  2. What a fun week you are going to have! Where can I find the Wishy-Washy books? I wonder if my local library would have them.

  3. LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! Mrs. Wishy Washy….She never gets old!

  4. Oh goodness, Elizabeth! I’m going to have to get The Best Place to Read. I’ve never heard of it, but it looks like a great read aloud. When I saw your post about Born to Read, I had to get that and it worked perfectly when I started Read to Self in my class. The kids just loved it! I’m sure they will enjoy this as well. Thanks for the suggestions!
