I am SO tired I can barely keep my eyes open right now. I forget that Valentine’s Day is a holiday to little kids and they get almost as excited as they do on Christmas!
First of all, our superintendent walked in to my classroom yesterday afternoon and the first thing he said when he opened the door was, “Don’t be nervous”. Uhhh…and now the side of my face is as red as a tomato. Thank goodness we were getting ready to go to PE so he was only in there for 10 minutes.
Then today I had my unannounced observation. We read the book “The Day it Rained Hearts” and then the kids did a writing of what they would do with the hearts if it rained hearts on them. Then for math today, I used some die cuts of hearts and wrote subtraction problems on the hearts. Then the kids made it “rain” hearts. When they got a heart, they had to go back to their seats and solve the problem with their base ten blocks. Then we did candy heart data tally/bar graph data collection.
All of it was worth it to get this little Valentine letter from one of my quietest boys and it made my day.
Happy Valentine’s Day!

  1. Love your post. I love it when those super quiet kids show their affection and show that they are part of class family! I have a super-quiet girl who doesn’t speak a lot of English, and those rare moments are so special!

  2. Don’t you just love when you get observed on a day when the kiddos are super excited, hyper, and ready for a V-Day party?! Not! Observations are nerve racking enough (well at least they made me nervous) and I don’t think getting observed on a special day makes it any easier. But I am sure you did great! At least that shows your principals how much more you rock. Sounds like you had a super busy day and filled with cute & fin things.

  4. Yes and today is so much more relaxed since I don’t feel like someone might pop in at any moment 🙂
    Hopefully…ha
