Wednesday Word Problem Giveaway and Dreaming of 100 followers!

It’s Wednesday and my kids know that on Wednesdays it’s ice cream day (they can only get it from the cafeteria on Wednesday) and Wednesday word problem day ๐Ÿ™‚ More importantly for me…it’s the word problem day….more importantly for them? You and I both know the answer to that. However, we are going to pretend that Kindergartners are more excited about theย possibilityย of the in depth thinking that will take place today in math instead of ice cream.

I am giving away my entire year of ย Wednesday Word problems. I am planning on picking 2 lucky winners…sometimes I get excited on Rafflecopter and keep clicking away because I like to see names pop up. So really…I say 2 and that probably means like 4 or 5 people will win ๐Ÿ™‚ I say it’s because I’m feeling generous when really I just like clicking. Works out for you either way!

Here is an example of one of the word problems that you would find in this unit.

I really think that doing a word problem every week has changed the way my students approach math and they aren’t scared of thinking. I remember in 4th grade hating math because I was never taught to think things through. My favorite thing to do is give the kids the problem and then say, “Tell me how to get the answer”. If they can do it, I give them a smartie…one smartie really motivates them! The problems get more difficult and the students have to actually apply their math skills. It starts off pretty easy in August and by the time March and April roll around…they are problem solving machines!ย

I also wanted to thank Dana from Fun in First Grade for featuring me on her “New Teacher Blog Tuesday”. This is just another example of the wonderful blogging community of teachers there are. I am so humbled that she asked me to do it and maybe it will help me get to 100! Thanks again Dana ๐Ÿ™‚ You rock!ย

Thanks for being wonderful blogger buds!ย
