My first Freebie Friday!

Freebie Fridays

Happy Friday friends…I can’t wait until this time next week!!!!!!! SPRING BREAK!!!
I am too excited :0)
I always do Five for Friday but I thought I would change it up this week and give away a freebie.
Of course, you are going to need the book in order to do this activity. The book was so good and the kids were so creative with their writing with this activity.
This would be a great activity to do on Monday after the kiddos get back from a weekend of drinking green beer St. Patrick’s Day Fun (I like to make myself laugh).
This book is awesome!
Here is where you can grab this writing response to go with it. Give each kid a potato and then have them glue it down and add background to their page.
Then, they write about how they would get the potato out of the ground.
Some of their responses are quite imaginative.
Tomie DePaola is such a wonderful story teller. This time of the year the students can really dive in to a story and do some character analysis and find the problem and solution. This was a great story because at the beginning of the book, there is a note to the kids from the author and he talks about his grandfather telling him this tall tale out of Ireland. I think it always makes books more meaningful to students when they get a little bit of information from the author. That’s why I’m such a fan of Jan Brett 🙂

This was such a great writing response to do and I hope that you will try it!
The kids enjoyed coming up with their own  potato tricks.
I copied the potatoes on brown paper, but you could always do it on white and have them color it themselves.
Happy Friday peeps!
