It’s the first day of Spring and it’s FREEZING!!!
Someone said the S word this morning and I just put my hands to my ears and said la-la-la I can’t hear you. Don’t even say snow (I said the S word) two days before Spring Break! I am just hoping that the weather at the beach will be better than the weather here. Brrr…
Report cards went home today. I am almost there! Just 2 more days!!!
Here is a little freebie for ya. I am hoping to use it when we get back on Monday after Spring Break. I really like using the four square writing to let the kids collect their thoughts. Even though it’s Kindergarten, teaching pre-writing and organizing their thoughts always helps them…especially when they have to write more in 1st grade.
I have been following my Lucy Calkins units of study word for word. I know there are lots of other great writing programs out there, but I just feel like her verbiage reaches the students and they think more deeply about their writing. I went all the way back and we’re doing “Writing for Readers” which is back to the beginning. I have been trying to follow other watered down versions of it and I just keep going back to this.
When we get back from Spring Break, we are going to do a big non-fiction writing unit with “How To” writing and the kids make an “All About ___” book and we have an author’s celebration and all that jazz.
