Better than Christmas morning!

Remember the “100 Book Challenge” that I posted about a few weeks ago? Well…there is an amazing company called American Reading Company that has their own version of the 100 Book Challenge. Of course, I am not in the business of taking ideas from anyone else. I had no clue there was a company out there that was copyrighting this idea so they contacted me to ask me to change the name of my product. They didn’t tell me I had to take it down or anything like that…just a name switch. I thought I was in big trouble (rule follower)! They just asked me if I wouldn’t mind changing the name to something else.
Of course not, I e-mailed them right back!

I could not believe it when they said they would be sending me books for my classroom for my cooperation..what!? So, Jenny, from American Reading Company e-mailed me again and said that the books were on their way.

Here is the morning in pictures:

I’m not kidding when I say this morning was better than Christmas morning! I wish I could have bottled up their excitement about these books. I could have thrown out my lesson plans for the entire morning and they would have been completely engaged in these books for a full 90 minutes. I was so shocked by the detail and diversity that each book had to offer. They are hands down, the best leveled readers I have ever seen. I am so grateful to American Reading Company for sending these to us! They are going to be perfect for the kids to do their:

 🙂
Which, by the way, they are doing an amazing job with!
Here are my five favorite things about these books:
1. The fact that some of them are non-fiction and the kids can actually read them!
2. The word attack strategies and power words that can be found in the back of every single book.
3. The pictures! The pictures in these books are incredible!
4. They are leveled when they come. You can go on their web-site and there is a correlation chart on their for you depending on the leveling system that your school uses. What a time saver for us teachers!
5. The topics that they cover to keep kiddos very engaged. The kids loved reading about ice hokey, football, sharks, spiders, bears, etc..They weren’t the cheesy non-fiction readers that I sometimes find.

I can’t say that my team-mates weren’t jealous! They were all loving these books just as much as I did. My reading specialist and vice principal had to come down to check out these books and we were all very impressed.

If you would like to check out these books for yourself, click here to get 12 ebooks for free on their web-site. You can also look at their other amazing books if you or your school might be interested in ordering books for your school or classroom.

I am just so thankful that this turned out to be a wonderful blessing for me and my students!
If you can pull yourself away from your blog reading, I would highly recommend that you check out their web-site!
