My all time favorite thing for students to get is a smartie (yes ONE smartie ha) when they complete their Wednesday Word Problem and they can explain their thinking to me. You would not believe the kind of math students can complete when there is a tiny piece of candy involved for doing a math problem. I just say “A smartie for a smarty.” and they l.o.v.e. it! I only do it on Wednesday and they only get one smartie. I can buy a bag at Target and it lasts me all year ha 🙂
Maybe you have something you do each week that stretches their thinking and you need to pull a little more out of their little brains!
I know not everyone can do candy, but for those that can…this is an awesome motivator!
