Moving Word Wall Flash Freebie

When I think of my word wall, I think of kids just aimlessly gawking up to find “and” under the “a”.
Then I visualize myself doing a crazy dance to get them to find the word.
Then they point to “is”.
Don’t you hear the sound of your hand slapping your forehead?
There’s got to be a better way.
By the end of the school year, my word wall is full of sight words all over the place. It works for those kids that know the words and might need to reference it for spelling. It doesn’t work for those kids that are so visual that they look at the wall and get completely overwhelmed. Traveling word walls seem to pose the same problem.
Here is my moving word wall I just finished yesterday.
Students can come up and find the “and” by taking the word ring of “a” words back to their seat and flipping through it. The “i” words and “s” words won’t be there to distract them from the “a” column.
I used a 24×36 whiteboard, but you can use whatever wall space or door that you want.
Full directions are included in the pack along with all of the supplies that I used to put it together. It was way easy and I love the final outcome.
I decided to do a flash freebie until noon (central time) today instead of a giveaway. If you use it and put it together, I’d love to see pictures of how you use it in your room!
I think it is such a great way to change up your word wall. It also takes up less space.
I will keep my word wall like I always, but this is another option for students.
After that, it’s up on Tools for School, TpT and Teacher’s Notebook.
On a different note, I’m headed to Chicago tomorrow for the BlogHer conference! I am way excited!!!!
American Reading Company is sending me there with lots of goodies! I can’t wait to share these books with some other bloggers out there.
I am such a firm believer in what this company is doing for young readers! They are aligned with Common Core and have an amazing Leveling Correlation System. They also believe in the same things that we as teachers believe in…choice, just-right books, monitoring progress, and assessments to determine growth and level.
The company is also full of nice, caring and wonderful people so that’s always a plus as well!
I am super excited to meet up with Amanda Pauley from Mrs. Pauley’s Kindergarten. We have been friends since I began blogging a few months ago and she lives close to Chicago and is driving to meet for dinner! I can’t wait to meet her!

  9. Are you going to make other sets (this is just the first 100)? Love the idea and already know where I’m putting it.

    • Hey Catherine! Yes I probably will. At the end of the packet I put where you can find the borders (for free on TpT) and the dimensions of the cards if you need them before I move on to the next set! If you are interested in a customized set, shoot me an email and I’d be happy to discuss options with you 🙂

  10. This is such a great idea, Elizabeth, and it takes up so much less space than a typical word wall!

I so enjoyed meeting you in Vegas! I wish I was going to the BlogHer conference but we started back on Monday!
