Ok, so I’m on Spring Break and you know that once we get back everyone has summer on the brain. Including me. For the past three years my team- mates and I have been challenging the students to a 100 Book Challenge. We do this because it seems like the excitement for reading and progressing kind of loses its momentum. Not because of anything other than it’s the end of the year and we all have summer plans, thoughts of first grade and outside playing on the brain :).
Here’s how it works:
-Send home the parent letter and “Score sheet” home with students.
*You can decide if you want to have them do the 50 or 100 Book Challenge. Sometimes, if you have students that are struggling, you can send home the 50 Book Challenge and that would be a huge accomplishment for them. You pick the one that works best for your students.
-I keep a log at school that I mark with a sticker for every 10 books they read. If you pick to do the 50 Book Challenge, then you would mark it for every 5 books.
-Once the students reach their 100 Book goal, I award them with a reading medal.
There are a few web-sites you can find the medals for relatively cheap.
If you don’t have the money to purchase the medals for your students, then I included some award certificates with glitter letters of course 🙂
-I also print off the “I Read 100 Books” and make it in to a poster and laminate it. The kids sign it and I take their picture in front of it with their reading medal. If you don’t have a poster maker, you can print off the poster, laminate it and have them sign it. When you take their picture they can just hold it. There’s always a way to make it work for you!
I have already sent home the letter and the kids have started working on it.
If you think your kids are up to the challenge…grab it and have fun!
First five people to comment will get this for free 🙂
This is such a cute idea! I think I am going to get this! I am sure once I get back from my spring break my kiddos are going to be wayyy ready for summer!!
