Peek at My Week..It’s November! Stone Soup Giveaway

Things that make me happy in life…one extra hour of weekend time. It is amazing how one hour can make a girl so happy. I don’t even know what I should plan for this extra hour. So many possibilities. However, I think I already used it making my plans for the week. If I could have a few more of those extra hours, I would be a lesson plan machine.

Peek at my Week Linky Button I might actually have all of my copies done and all of my plans laid out neatly on my desk. It’s only 9:45 when it should be 10:45. Bliss. With this extra hour, I even had a chance to get a Stone Soup unit done. Actually, that’s a lie. I did it yesterday.

We are going to be digging deep in to story elements this week. I love reading these stories since they are great for comparing and analyzing. There is also a great moral to the story. We will read a different version each day.

I love these books and it is always a powerful week of teaching. It also gives you a little buffer between all of the holiday hoopla. I love all of the October/Autumn/Thanksgiving/November jazz, but sometimes it’s nice to have a breather in the middle of it all. I have created a mini-unit to go along with these books. We have a story element chart that we will complete as a class each day. I have one of those fancy poster makers, but you can be your creative teacher self and use the chart any way that works for you! When Friday rolls around, the students should be able to complete their own story element organizer. And for doing so, we get to have a little tasting party. I always make stone soup (aka vegetable soup) in a crock-pot. Just cook the beef and onions before. We don’t have a kitchen at school so we just have to make do with what we got.

Do you read these books in your classroom? If so, here is your lucky day. Enter to win 🙂 I’ll pick a winner tomorrow so hurry and enter!
