Sorry I’ve been a little M.I.A. this week on the blog. I was doing this thing called moving your stuff in to a storage unit, being sick, and oh right…moving in with my parents until the new house is ready.
Soooo…..yeah, there’s that.
1. I’m just going to get this first part over with because my eyes are already starting to water and I feel this weird tickle in my throat. Had to say good-bye to my first house that I called “little blue”. Yes, some of the floor boards were separated and the water pressure would turn in to a drip if the washing maching started, but I love this house. It was my first Beyonce moment (single ladies…c’mon) because I bought it myself a year after college. It is just the sweetest house ever and I’m going to miss it. This is so ridiculous, but I took a picture of the spot where my husband proposed to me.
Ok, I’m done. I can’t talk about it anymore.
2. I don’t know what has been up with my immune system this week, but I have the worst cold. I can’t get rid of it. Maybe now that it’s out of the single digits, I’ll be able to shake it. Any suggestions!? I know there is some head cold teacher secret out there that I haven’t heard of yet. We’ve been stuck indoors for recess for almost two weeks now. My sweet little girls love to do art center when we have “free choice”. They knew I was a little under the weather and they made me cards.
3. Have I mentioned how football obsessed my boys are this year? It is seriously ridiculous. One of my boys can name every Q.B. for every pro football team and probably every college team. I just haven’t asked him about the college teams yet. Putting that on my check-list for today…
I made this math game last year as part of my football unit and when I posted this picture on IG, I got a lot of questions.
Here is how it works.
There are two card piles. One pile is addition problems. They are basic subtraction problems where the answer is anywhere from 0-12. Then they are “play” cards in another pile. When the student answers the addition problem correctly, they get to make a play on the board. They begin on the 20 yard line because there are “go back 10 yards” cards in the pile and that might be their first move. They are beyond in love with this game. It’s perfect because it addresses addition and counting forward and back by 10’s
The other football related activity we did this week was this football writing craft from A Cupcake for The Teacher.
Holy cuteness.
4. Nothing goes better with football other than Jan Brett.
Right?
That’s been our other focus this week. We’ve been doing so many great literacy activities with her stories. My students have needed some serious help with retell. I think that’s been a thing every year and I just forget. If I asked a student to re-tell The Mitten to me one on one, they may say something like “Well, the animals just got in the mitten and then sneezed and fell out”.
Or something along those lines…
I’ve really been working on having them re-tell with detail. They did that with The Mitten and with The Hat. For The Mitten re-tell activity, they colored and cut out the animals. They cut out a mitten and I stapled a baggie to the back of it so the animals could go “in” and “out” of the mitten. Even though it’s a baggie…we can use our imaginations….
The kiddos re-told the story with two different buddies on the carpet and then I checked it.
The Hat re-tell was a bit more straightforward .
I had to share this because the picture of the problem/solution made me laugh.
5. How I had a second to finish anything this week is nothing short of a miracle. One of our standards is about science tools. I couldn’t find anything that I felt would meet this standard for my kiddos so I just made my own.
I had this in
It is on sale until Sunday and I am also giving one away!

Love the football player craft!
This unit looks amazing!!!! I honestly don’t even know who is playing in the game. I’ve been told a million times but I keep forgetting, lol. I’m all about the snacks and commercials 🙂

Gotta’ cheer for the Broncos! 🙂 Going to check out your new science packet!!! Goodluck with the move too! 🙂
When I feel a cold coming on I drink 1 tsp. apple cider vinegar diluted in 1 cup of water once per day. Drink it all at one time. When I have a cold, I drink it 3 times a day. It is gross, but it really works. I used to be on an antibiotic at least 6 times a year. In January of 2013 I decided not to use an antibiotic to get better. I did a lot of research on natural ways to get better and I found this. I have not taken an antibiotic in 1 whole year!!! I swear by it!!!
I would say Broncos. Loved your 5 for Friday. Our homes are our safe havens from the world. They represent who we are. It is always nice to have something new but, it is ad to say goodbye, even if it is just a house. Congrats on your new house.
I love that you took a picture where your hubby proposed. So sweet! Can I come be in your class?? Looks like you guys had so much fun this week. Your new unit looks ah-mazimg as always.
Hugs,
Amanda
I don’t care which team wins. I only watch it for the commercials! 🙂 My family is cheering for the Broncos, though.
Thanks for the giveaway. This set looks awesome!!
First off, to buy a house your first year out of college is super impressive! It’s pretty neat. Love the football game and the science tool pack. If you have a minute, go to Preschool Wonder’s post (she’s number 5 this week on Five for Friday) and check out the adorable science goggles her kids made. Hope you are feeling better. I bet mom will make you some chicken soup! 🙂
Thank you for offering this giveaway. It looks great.
I too live in Nashville and I.cannot.kick.this.COLD! Ugh! It’s miserable! Hoping the sunshine today will help me feel better! And I hope you feel better too!
And I’m cheering for the Broncos! 🙂
