You know those days where you think to yourself…man, I’m actually pretty good at this. I am pumped up about teaching today!
You may actually have it all together?
Yeah, today was not one of those days for me.
Our field trip yesterday wiped. me. out. I actually caught myself talking out loud to myself in the middle of teaching. Is that ok to admit? The world wide web is a safe place to divulge all of your inner dark teaching secrets, right?
That’s what I thought.
Yesterday, we went on this absolutely amazing field trip. I am going to go ahead and say that the 45 minute bus ride is actually worth it. The kids got to play in this amazing indoor playground, walk through the wetlands, wade in a spring in rain boots, fish for tadpoles and pet a snake. Half of them fell alseep on the bus ride home. So yeah, yesterday I was feeling that rock-star teacher feeling without actually having taught…
Not sure what that means.
Today, we wrote about our field trip because there was so much to talk about. I usually have them just do the picture and then a sentence or two about what it was that they liked about the trip. Since we’ve been talking so much about living “writerly” lives, I decided that there needed to be some specifics included.
Lists have been a big deal for my kiddos this year. They love to make lists, so I included it on their field trip writing.
They had to label where they went, make a list of what they saw, write about something they learned, and then write and draw about their favorite part of the trip.
Then of course, one friend had something specific he remembered about snakes…
I mean, I’m just happy about the silent “e” at the end of snakes.
Pick your battles people.
I had my kiddos use the lines to practice “bumping” the line (I’m a Handwriting Without Tears gal) but you have the option to use the graphic organizer without the lines.
Click on the picture to grab it for free. Hopefully, you have some fun field trips planned before the end of the year and you will be able to use this for the day after 🙂

“Is that font, “Sassy Pants?”
It sure is! I LOVE your fonts. That and “potty mouth” are two of my favorites =)
Thanks for the freebie! It is perfect! What font did you use!? I love it!
My family loves the discovery center! We try to go at least once a month!
Oh I love it! We were planning on writing about our field trip to the farm when we get back and this is perfect! Thank you!
I love the Discovery Center! Field trips are always so fun but SO exhausting. We have one next week–thanks for the freebie!

This is awesome and will definitely come in handy for our next field trip in May. Your field trip sounded like so much fun! Where was it to exactly? I wish more field trip places had experiences like that around here. Thanks for sharing.
