February is coming to an end (can I get an amen!? What is it about this month!?)
So I’m ready to start talking March 🙂
March is also the month that I’m going back to school to finish out the year with my kiddos after my maternity leave is finished so I’m a little anxious to start talking March!
First week of March is usually Read Across America week. I know people have mixed emotions about Dr. Seuss for various reasons, but I do think it has a place in each and every classroom. We always do different activities throughout the week. My favorite day is “Thing Thursday” and I always dress up!
One day that week, we wear PJS and celebrate “The Sleep Book”.
 Here is a freebie text-to-self connection that I use with my kids and they are usually pretty funny when they write and draw about their dreams. Even if you just do one day of Seuss, this is one that is a little different than Cat in the Hat or Green Eggs and Ham…even though those are always a favorite!
March BUILD has some really fun math activities that are perfect for your kiddos.
This is one of the using manipuatives activities. If your kiddos haven’t been able to get to the recording page in the past, by now they are probably getting quicker and able to count and record their shapes.
Shamrock shake is a favorite game for the buddy game tub. Students draw a card with an addition fact on it and then use the St. Patrick day erasers (found them at party city). Those St. Patrick’s Day erasers are all over the place this time of the year. You can probably find them at Target as well.
Here is another activity where we use the erasers as counting manipulatives.
We call this “Luck of the Ten Frame” and students draw a card and build the number with tens and ones using a ten frame.
This literacy station is always a favorite for my kids. They love getting to peel the stickers off and stick them on their paper. This is a freebie that you can download and keep in your literacy stations all year. You can find great stickers at Michaels or other craft stores. I know Target has some great stickers as well! Just start grabbing them when you see them and keep them in one area to get when you need them. I also ask parents for stickers in my newsletters and have them send them in.
