Remember? I have a goal of coming back with tan feet. I may have a towel over my legs but my feet are getting tan in the meantime. If I could demand a do-over of Spring Break, I would.

So even though it’s cold, at least I’m not doing my taxes 🙂 Or much of anything for that matter!
Now on to the freebie. This idea was given to me by a friend of mine that is working on her Master’s in Literacy and it is research based. It really gets the students thinking about the characters on a deeper level. I love doing it with Goldilocks because at the beginning of the lesson, the students always say she is the “good” character because of what she looks like. Then we do the inside/outside traits of her and they immediately change their minds. I let the kids take them home so I don’t have a kid’s example, but here are some of the words they came up with (all on their own 🙂
I also like talking to the kids about their character and even though they or someone else might look a certain way, it doesn’t mean that it’s their heart. I have kids with special needs in my room this year so I feel like this really great literacy discussion resonated with them in a different way. It was very powerful and I felt like I needed to share it! We did this with Little Red Riding Hood and Jack. All three are free and are great for discussion. Even though re-telling and predicting are great comprehension skills, it’s nice to do something a little different 🙂 After we talked about Goldilocks, we did the same thing for Little Red Riding Hood the next day and we compared the two characters.

I can’t believe you laid out in this freezing weather! I’m on spring break right now and cannot believe how cold it is for Florida. I mean the high was 60. That’s crazy for this time of year!!Thanks for the freebie I love them and will be using them with my kiddos!
