The boys in my class are obsessed with Star Wars this year. So much so that the girls have started to get books out of the Star Wars basket to put in their book bags during Reader’s Work-shop too. since the boys think it’s so great, they think they might just be missing out on something 🙂 I did this packet because I have some pretty amazing readers. Not because of anything I did…they just came to me like that! I feel like I am teaching first grade this year because of the writing they can do. I have been talking to my reading coach and writing in response to literature is where we are moving on to. With that being said, I thought that this clip art would motivate my boys (and some of my girls) to do their writing. I also am really starting to work with them on their connections. Instead of making a literal connection, we are discussing character traits and how it can relate to them on a deeper level. I am having them hunt back in books and really think deeper. I have not ever gotten to teach this way to K kiddos! They really are an amazing group of readers. This might be more suitable for a first grade classroom, but either way, I hope that you can find a way to use it during your literacy time. It’s only $3.25 at my TpT and Teacher’s notebook store 🙂

What a great way to motivate your little friends! Isn’t it just great when they come to you already knowing so much. That’s how my class was last year and I loved it because they came to me reading on a K level and writing simple sentences and left me reading on 2nd grade level and writing a paragraph. I bet your kiddos will love this! Great idea.
