Oral Presentations for First Grade Giveaway

This snow day has been nice and productive! Pretty much because I am trapped inside of my house 🙂

I have been wanting to make an Oral Presentation unit for First Grade and I finally made it happen! Once students leave Kindergarten, I still think it’s important that they hone those speaking and listening skills in 1st. I have also added another important skill to this unit which I think is important and that is asking on topic questions. Once students present, students that are in the “audience” should be able to ask questions to piggy-back off of the information that was provided. This is something that is in this unit that I didn’t include in the Kindergarten one. There is also more content to these presentations. More of them are research based where students have to present information that they found.

For each month, here is what they will be presenting on:

August- My Summer Break
September-My Family Tree
October- Being a Good Citizen
November- State Symbols
December-Holidays Around the World
January- Animal Report
February- President’s
March- Favorite Author
April- Weather Report
May- Movin’ on Up

Also, I included an editable box so you can go ahead and type in the due date for each month.

Some of the presentations my kids have given this year are all about their favorite toys, favorite place to visit and about their holiday traditions.

I think this would help students become a strong presenter and assist with developing early research skills. Confidence is so important and if we can instill it at a young age this will benefit them in the long run 🙂

  2. This will help my students use complete sentences when talking and participate more in class.

  3. I am truly amazed at all the wonderful projects you have created for first grade! These are awesome! I would love to use this product in my classroom!

  4. Jackie Wilson says:

I think that presentations would keep my students engaged. They love to get in front of each other and share (about any and everything) but this would give them a chance to share while keeping it aligned to curriculum. I also know that kids sometimes learn better from each other. When I have students who struggle with a particular concept, I sometimes pair them with a student who does understand and it helps them so much learning from each other than me at times.
I know they would stay engaged and it would be awesome for them to do the teaching. It is also just simply great practice for them to get used to for when entering the higher grades where they will be required to present. It is also a CCSS that students be able to speak audibly and express thoughts clearly. I am a first year teacher and I would love this product so much to enhance my instruction!

  5. I would absolutely LOVE this!

  6. I like presentations because students have to think through their writing a lot more. They have to think about if their words make sense and how others will receive it. Its a good motivator for students who tend to say they edited their work when they maybe “skimmed” it.

  7. Markisha Herring says:

This product would help my students to improve their writing, listening, and speaking skills.

  8. This would be fantastic for the speaking and listening standards! This is an important life skill.

  9. It would help my students organize their thoughts and gain confidence speaking in front of others.
