I know, I know….it’s too early for subtraction. I feel the exact same as you. However, this year we are following “Go Math” and that’s the next chapter so I’m just going to go with it. I don’t feel like my kids are 100% ready but I also don’t ever really feel like they are 100% ready because subtraction is always such a difficult concept. I do think that at least introducing it and getting used to the symbol will help us later in the year. I’m also diving in to punctuation this week and wrapping it up with vowel surgery on Friday. I think I forgot to mention that we have our November presentations due on Thursday. Hopefully, this doesn’t all send me in to labor! We are going to tackle it and see how it goes…so wish me luck.
NOW that I have that off my chest, we can all move on.
So yes, this week is going to be crazy but I’m getting ready to have this baby and I want to make sure we get to do vowel surgery this year! I know that it may not be quite as fabulous as it was last year, but I’m going to do my best and bring in some help from my interim teacher and maybe a parent or two.
I don’t think the scrubs that I wore last year are going to fit but I do have my doctor’s jacket and all of my little doctors will have their attire for completing surgery. If you want to read the full post about how we carry out vowel surgery, you can click here or on the pictures.
While I know most of you are thinking, “How crazy are you to do all of this AND subtraction!?”. Don’t worry, I feel the same way 😛 I’m just going to go with the flow and what we get done, we get done…what we have to push to next week…or next month…gets pushed.

Later in the year, we will do Punctuation Police once the kids have really developed an understanding of how to use it in their writing. You were probably expecting me to say that we were going to do it this week too. I am hoping to come back to school to do Punctuation Police with them!
And on top of all of this, we start new literacy stations and BUILD tubs tomorrow!
