Searchin’ for Seashells {Freebie}

Are you wondering if I fell off the face of the blogging earth?

Yeah, me too.

Today was our last day. It was bittersweet for sure. I loved my sweet little class this year. The last day always sneaks up on me. We all start the count down right after Spring Break and then all of a sudden it’s the last week of school and you haven’t done the slideshow or report cards.

True story.

Monday we had our beach day. The kids all came to school decked out in their beach outfits. Lots of coverups and sunglasses. They all brought their beach towels and we moved the tables out of the way. They spent their day doing their work on their beach towel. I also blew up a couple of beach balls. The beach balls really gave it that final touch…I mean, I could have sworn we were on the white sandy beaches of Florida.

It was like Christmas in May.

One of our literacy activities was “Searchin’ for Shells”. We were looking for shells on the beautiful Tennessee beaches y’all. I literately took a box of shells from our science station, rolled up some beach sentences, and tossed them out the window. They went looking for shells on our pretend beach.

Word to the wise. Tell them not to shove the sentence strip back in to the shell to the point of no return. If not, you will be spending most of the activity with scissors trying to fish them out.

You live you learn…moving on.

Not every shell had a sentence in it. They had to hunt for the ones that did have the senteces. When they found one, they sat down with their clipboard and read the senteces. After they read it, they wrote it and drew a picture to match.

All you need to do is get some shells and print out the senteces included in the printout!

I know lots of you have themed days going on in your rooms. What other ideas do you have!? I had beach day and game day. Other than that…I am looking for new ideas for next year!
