Snow Day Activities

This year, the snow didn’t make or break my week since I’m on maternity leave. However, I was still glued to the TV and my phone waiting to hear about the school closings. I was just excited for everyone else! I know some of you, especially my east coast friends, are sick of the snow. Last week, we got 8 inches!

I live in the south y’all…I don’t even know what to do with that much snow!

Already, school has been cancelled for 3 days. I always tell my kids to get out in the snow and play, play, play! That is their homework when we are off school for a random snow day. Last year, we had a lot of snow and we were out for a whole week! There is only so much sledding you can do in a week. Parents were also asking me for things that they could do at home with their kids.

One on-line resource that we have is Big Universe.

There are thousands of leveled texts on this web-site and you can even get an app for iPads. In the past, I have assigned leveled books as part of at home reading. This is a great resource for parents and students to do some reading at home. There are tons of non-fiction books that my boys always really enjoy. If you don’t have access to something like this, then let them use their books that they are bringing home or send home extra books if you know that there is inclement weather coming that might cause school to be closed!

Here is a quick snow day freebie that you could send home or e-mail to parents if you are out for multiple days.
