Question or a Comment Sort {Freebie}

It was the first day with all of my new kiddos so I’m sure you can appreciate my post being short and sweet for y’all today. I have a group of 22 AWESOME kids that love to share their ideas and thoughts. They really are a great bunch and I’m excited about this year. My student teacher is a dream and I wish I could just tuck her away for the entire year…sigh.

You K teachers know the drill the first week of school. You know you’re a Kindergarten teacher when sentences like this are being said:”This is how we walk in a line”, “Honey, you can’t do that at school”, “Please flush the potty”, “We don’t make spit bubbles on the carpet”, “This is how you raise your hand”, “Please stop tapping me and go sit at your seat”, “Your chair is right here”…the list goes on and on 🙂

Bless.

Another fun part of Kindergarten are the “stories” {a.k.a. comments} with no filter whatsoever.

We have a little activity that we are going to be doing to talk about the differences between a question and a comment. It looks a little something like this:

question

I took some of the things that they said on the carpet the first couple of days and just typed them out. I’m in the middle of a book and someone just blurts out, “My bike is red and goes super fast!!!”. With a large class, I feel like I need to bring this up a little bit earlier in the year than I normally would. You might want to tuck this away in your bag of tricks for later in the year.

This is a freebie activity and just a way to help you manage your instructional time!

  1. Thanks for the freebie Elizabeth! I teach first grade and I still get those random stories when I ask a question, lol. Enjoy your week!
